Ulverston Self Isolation Group
Ulverston Self Isolation Group is currently in discussions with Cumbria County Council and Ulverston Emergency Planning Group about what we could do if there is a second wave of Covid-19 in the area. We are also considering what long-term benefit might be gained from the Ulverston Self Isolation Group experience gained over the last few months.

Regardless of whether you are already a volunteer for the group, we would really like to know a little more about you, and your potential availability for a range of volunteering activities.

Please click on the "Update your preferences" link below, and respond to the questions as applicable. To enable you to change your mind in the future, we will include a link at the bottom of every newsletter, so that you can alter your responses whenever you want.

Museum of the Moon

Free Exhibition at The Coro

The Coro has been temporarily converted into a gallery, hosting Luke Jerram's 'Museum of the Moon', for the whole month of August.

This awe-inspiring installation is an exact replica of the Moon we see in the sky at night and has been seen by over 3 Million people world-wide. Measuring seven metres in diameter, the inflated Moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents five kilometres of the Moon’s surface.
To keep everyone safe, a timed entry system is in place and there will be limited numbers in the building. COVID secure measures will be in place and social distancing will be observed at all times.

You can book your free time slot online.
Thursdays: 12-8pm, Fridays: 12-8pm, Saturdays: 12-6pm & Sundays 12-6pm
In addition, on each of these days from 10am-12pm the exhibition will be available to view without booking. This is primarily to enable those without internet access to visit but there will still be only limited numbers in the building, so you may have to queue.

We recommend you book a free time slot if you can.

Retro Rendezvous 2020

Message from the Retro Rendezvous Team

It is with great sadness, that we feel compelled to cancel Retro Rendezvous 2020 due to the risks presented by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

We have given this a great deal of detailed consideration. Knowing, as we do, that running the event would give a significant psychological lift for our community, our many visitors and a much-needed boost for our local tourism and hospitality sectors, we have not taken this decision lightly.

We are bitterly disappointed to have to make this decision, particularly as, following the success of 2019, which was a real breakthrough year for the event, planned visitor numbers had increased significantly again for 2020. Bookings for the cycling event have been taken from across Europe and the USA.

Regardless, we felt that we had to put the health, safety and security of our visitors and communities first and place the long-term security of the event ahead of short-term gains.

This decision protects the future of the event and ensures that it continues to be held in high regard by the local community, visitors and key statutory organisations.

We are committed to delivering the event to a high standard in the long term and with this in mind, we are considering a date change for 2021, we need to consult a range of stakeholders on this and will announce a decision as soon as possible.

We would like to thank you for your ongoing support and patience as we have worked through this and look forward to seeing you many times again, in a happier and safer world.

A590 Roadworks

Notice from Highways England

Carriageway surfacing and road marking replacement work is due to take place on the A590 through Ulverston Town Centre. Over time the carriageway has deteriorated and needs replacing. Longer and harder-wearing material is being used to resurface the A590 between the junctions of Quebec Street and Prince’s Street/Queen Street crossroads. In addition to this, we’ll also replace the road markings through to the junction of Daltongate.

Work is due to start on or shortly after 7 September for approximately five weeks. This will take place between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

For safety, temporary traffic lights will be in place on the A590 between the junctions of Quebec Street and Daltongate during the dates and time stated above. In addition to this, overnight full closures are required on the 20 and 27 September and 4 October. Localised signed diversion routes will be in place.

Work is subject to weather conditions and therefore dates may change at short notice. Our work will inevitably generate some noise and every effort will be made to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. Read more.
